Atardecer al Lado del Lago

The title of the painting translates to "Sunset by the Lakeside" in English. It's the first artwork created in the Reflections series. I didn't know where it was going when I first started. I remember trying to think of where to start. Until I finally decided to go to a local lake to find inspiration. It was sitting on the grass, watching the sun set behind the trees that initiated the spark for the first piece in the series!

I was no expert in painting water or seamless skies! The one thing that I wanted to capture in the painting was the water ripples. The way the sunlight would hit the water ripples caused luminosity within the water. I used impressional- brush strokes to create the impression of the water ripples within the lake.

Each painting in the series has a sense of expressionism and impressionism because of the bold brush strokes and capture of light, movement, moment, or feeling. However, I blended different areas within each painting, a key part of my art style. I learned a new technique while creating this one, which I applied to the rest of the paintings in the series. It's called glazing. This technique helped blend large areas, like the sunset sky. Glazing allows the paint to thin and become transparent, which allows the blending of colors. I’ll talk about that in a different post! You can watch a YouTube Short on the Art Seeds Paintings Channel. It’s a three-month painting process captured in a 50-second video.
