Brisa Entre las Flores
"Breeze Among the Flowers" is the translated painting's title in English. This landscape was inspired by a local nature park. It's tall greenery, and wildflowers move freely over the wooden rails on a breezy-cloudy day. That day was warm yet chilly because of the crisp breeze. I wanted to capture the feeling and movement of the plants. The other goal was to capture some light on the fence, plants, and ground, giving the appearance of light gleaming through the clouds since the sunlight peeked through the clouds as they broke off and moved on.
I combined both detailed and abstract work within the whole landscape as one. The native plants are fully detailed in the front, and as they recede to the middle ground, I painted all the greenery more abstractly. The lake, in the middle ground, was also painted loosely. The trees are gathered and sparse around the nature park with a far-off hill.
I use semi-opaque acrylic paint in various layers to capture the soft light and movement. Similar to glazing, semi-opaque paint with some water allows some color underneath to show through. Building up bold brush strokes helped me create the foreground plants. If you use opaque acrylic paint, you will not see through it. You can watch a clip of that process below.
